First of all, September is National Recovery Month. Below is an email I received, plus another addiction awareness announcement:

September is National Recovery Month

Celebration to Culminate with Star-Studded Concert in Washington, DC

NADCP is once again honored to be a partner for National Recovery Month, an annual celebration coordinated by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Throughout September, thousands of events across the country will help increase awareness of behavioral health conditions and promote the belief that behavioral health is essential to health, prevention works, treatment is effective, and people recover from mental and/or substance use disorders.

If your Drug Court is holding a special Recovery Month event be sure to let SAMHSA know about it by posting information to their calendar of events at www.recoverymonth.gov/events/post-events. Learn more about Recovery Month by clicking here.

“Drug Courts and other treatment courts are on the front lines of the public health crisis that impacts more than 85 million Americans,” said NADCP Interim CEO Carolyn Hardin. “Recovery Month is an amazing opportunity for us to celebrate our life-saving impact on individuals, families, and communities, and show the nation that the courts can be places of healing and transformation.”

NADCP is joining Unite to Face Addiction in Washington, DC on October 4 for a historic culmination to Recovery Month that will feature some of the biggest names in music. On 10.04.15 the silence around addiction and recovery will end as tens of thousands will gather on the National Mall to let our nation know that addiction is preventable and treatable that far too many of those affected have been incarcerated and that people can and do get well.

Join Joe Walsh, Steven Tyler, Sheryl Crow, Jason Isbell, The Fray, John Rzeznik of the Goo Goo Dolls and 50,000 of your closest friends on October 4 and let’s transform the way the world views addiction and recovery. To learn more and get involved, click here.

Jason Isbell is one my favorites — he’ll be in Savannah at the Lucas Theater on November 21. Another addiction awareness announcement is local:
